Cattleya Orchid, Two Hummingbirds and a Beetle

Story

A pale pink orchid spreads its petals above a moss-covered branch, its buds still closed, while two hummingbirds hover nearby and a small beetle rests close to the leaves. Behind them, a misty mountain landscape fades into soft distance. The piece is an oil painting completed in 1875 by Martin Johnson Heade (1819–1904), an American artist associated with the Hudson River school and Luminism.
