Story

A small boat holds two women and a child, all leaning toward the water to feed a group of ducks. The scene is rendered in gentle washes of yellow, blue, and white, giving the water a soft, luminous quality. The piece was made in 1895 using drypoint, aquatint in color and softground etching on ivory laid paper, laid down on ivory wove paper. Mary Cassatt (1844–1926) was an American artist associated with Impressionism, also known for her painting Little Girl in a Blue Armchair.
