A woman dressed in a white patterned gown holds a young child close in a tender embrace, set against a warm backdrop of beige and brown tones suggesting an interior space. The painting was made in oil in 1908. It is the work of Mary Cassatt (1844–1926), an American painter associated with Impressionism, whose notable works include Little Girl in a Blue Armchair. The piece belongs to the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
