Story

A woman cradles a young child, their forms set against a muted green backdrop, with soft touches of white, pink, and blue shaping the figures. The scene centers on close physical contact between the two, suggesting warmth without excess detail. This oil painting was completed in 1897 by Mary Cassatt, an American painter working within the Impressionist movement. Cassatt, who lived from 1844 to 1926, is also known for her painting Little Girl in a Blue Armchair. The piece is held at the Musée d'Orsay.
