Mary Cassatt was an American painter and printmaker celebrated for her intimate portrayals of women and children and her important role within the Impressionism movement. Born in Pennsylvania, Cassatt studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts before moving to Paris, where she pursued advanced artistic training and eventually joined the circle of artists led by Edgar Degas. Their friendship profoundly influenced her use of pastel, printmaking, and modern compositional techniques.Living most of her life in France, Cassatt became known for her refined depictions of domestic life, especially the emotional bond between mothers and children. Her paintings combined Impressionist light and color with strong draftsmanship and psychological sensitivity. Beyond her artistic achievements, Cassatt played a major role in introducing Impressionist art to American collectors, helping shape important museum collections in the United States.
