Story
A lively open-air gathering unfolds under a canopy of trees, dotted with people dressed in bright colors spread across a green field, while a stretch of blue water glimmers in the distance. Maurice Brazil Prendergast painted this scene in oil in 1920. His work connects to both the Ashcan School and Post-impressionism, reflecting his American background. The piece entered the Minneapolis Institute of Art through the Julia B. Bigelow Fund.
