Story
A busy gathering fills a park, with many figures dressed in bright colors clustered under twisted, gnarled trees. The scene blends greens, browns, blues, and earthy tones into a dense, lively composition. Painted in oil in 1918, the work reflects Maurice Brazil Prendergast's connection to Post-impressionism and the Ashcan School. The piece came to the Newark Museum through a gift from supporters of the institution.
Where it works
Warm-toned artwork suited to living rooms and dining rooms, and to restaurants, in a horizontal format.
