Opal Sea

Story

A packed shoreline fills the scene, with figures dressed in period clothing gathered near the water's edge, while sailboats drift and islands rise across a stretch of blue sea under a pale sky. Maurice Brazil Prendergast painted this in oil in 1907. He worked within the Ashcan School and Post-impressionism, and the piece entered the Terra Foundation for American Art through the Daniel J. Terra Collection.
