Story

A shoreline fills with people dressed in the fashions of their time, gathered beneath umbrellas of varied colors while buildings and trees rise behind them. The composition blends blues, greens, browns, and reds across the busy gathering. The piece is rendered in watercolor on paper. Maurice Brazil Prendergast (1858–1924), an American artist associated with the Ashcan School and Post-impressionism, also created the notable work Autumn.
