Story

A harbor town rises along the shoreline, its buildings and water rendered in blues, greens, whites, and earthy tones, with simplified clouds floating above a stacked, layered view of the coast. Maurice Brazil Prendergast made this watercolor and graphite work in 1907, depicting St. Malo. Prendergast, an American painter and draftsperson (1858–1924), worked within the Ashcan School and Post-impressionism. The piece came to its collection through the Daniel J. Terra Collection.
