Story

A kabuki performer stands in heavy costume, his face marked with bold pink and black makeup, dressed in a richly patterned robe and gripping a weapon in a dramatic stance. The figure represents Kataoka Ichizo in the role of Benkei. This color woodblock print was made in 1927 by Natori Shunsen (1886–1960), a Japanese printmaker and illustrator associated with the Nihonga movement.
