Story
Tall sunflowers and poppies rise from a sandy stretch of earth beneath a sky filled with drifting clouds. The composition leans into decorative patterning, with yellow, green, and earth tones giving the plants a flattened, almost graphic presence against the ground and air around them. Painted in oil in 1899, the piece comes from Paul Elie Ranson (1861–1909), a French painter associated with Symbolism.
