The Vines

Story

Twisted vines curl across the foreground of this autumn scene, their gnarled shapes framing rolling hills and distant mountains. Beyond them stretch fields in yellow-green tones, all set beneath a sky glowing bright yellow. Paul Elie Ranson (1861–1909), a French artist, created this work within the Symbolist movement, bringing a decorative, stylized quality to the natural landscape through simplified forms and heightened color.

Where it works

Warm-toned artwork suited to living rooms and kitchens, and to hotel lobbies, in a horizontal format.
