Story
A round-faced angel stares out with arms spread and wings spread wide, rendered in brown ink and watercolor across aged paper. The figure fills most of the sheet, its stiff posture and wide eyes giving it an unsettling, otherworldly presence. Paul Klee made this piece in 1920 using oil transfer and watercolor on paper. Klee, a German-Swiss artist, worked within Expressionism and later the Bauhaus. The piece entered the Israel Museum's collection as a gift from several donors.
Where it works
Warm-toned artwork suited to living rooms and libraries, and to hotel guest rooms, in a vertical format.
