Story

Blocks of purple, red, green, brown, and gold lock together across the surface, each shape bordered by firm black outlines, forming a dense abstract pattern of interlocking geometric forms. The composition is rendered in pastel on fabriano paper, dated 1937. Paul Klee (1879–1940), a German-Swiss artist associated with the Bauhaus and with Expressionism, also explored Color Field approaches in his work.
