Kunstvoller Sternehalter (Ingenious Star Container)

Story

Angular shapes and radiating lines spread across tan paper, forming an abstract arrangement of three-dimensional forms rendered in black ink. The composition reads like a diagram of some invented mechanism, geometric yet playful. This piece, Kunstvoller Sternehalter (Ingenious Star Container), was made in 1922 using watercolored oil transfer drawings laid down. Paul Klee (1879–1940), a German-Swiss artist associated with the Bauhaus, created this work, now held at the Yale University Art Gallery.
