Story
A compact stretch of countryside unfolds through angular shapes suggesting rooftops, walls, and clustered plants, while a bold red sun glows above the scene. Soft earthy browns and layered greens give the composition a quiet, patterned warmth. Paul Klee made this piece using oil on plaster in 1928. Klee, a German-Swiss artist (1879–1940), worked within the Bauhaus movement, and the painting entered the Detroit Institute of Arts as a gift from Mr. and Mrs. A. Alfred Taubman.
