Story
Rounded, organic forms overlap and cluster across a coarsely woven surface, rendered in shades of brown, tan, and ochre against a pale beige ground. The shapes seem to drift and merge, suggesting clustered fruit without strict detail. Paul Klee painted this in oil on jute in 1932. Klee, German-Swiss (1879–1940), worked within the Bauhaus movement. The piece came to the museum as a fractional and promised gift from Janice and Henri Lazarof.
Where it works
A still life suited to dens and bedrooms, and to hotel guest rooms, in a horizontal format.
