Story
Geometric shapes and linear forms cluster together in red, orange, and pink tones, set against a red ground. The angular pieces overlap and shift direction, giving the composition a sense of movement across the surface. Paul Klee painted this oil work in 1939. Klee was a German-Swiss artist linked to the Bauhaus and to Expressionism. The piece entered the Saint Louis Art Museum as a gift from Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Pulitzer Jr.
