Story

Angular red, blue, brown, and green shapes cluster together, their stylized figures and sharp forms joined by thin black lines in a loose geometric pattern. The piece is painted in oil on paper with jute, completed in 1939. Paul Klee, a German-Swiss artist associated with the Bauhaus and with Expressionism, created this composition, which belongs to a body of work also linked to Color Field abstraction.
