Story

An abstracted head emerges from an oval cream form, bordered by a geometric rectangle that frames the face. An orange wash spreads across the top, while a red circular mark punctuates the right side, and a peach-toned neck anchors the composition below. Rendered in watercolor on paper in 1934, the piece reflects the Bauhaus and Expressionist leanings of Paul Klee (1879–1940), a German-Swiss artist whose work also includes Angelus Novus.
