Story
A quiet village unfolds across gentle hills, its houses and fields painted in soft yellows, greens, blues, and browns, with mountains rising behind the rooftops. The scene appears muted and simplified, suggesting rural calm rather than detail. Paul Klee made this watercolor on tan paper in 1914, a German-Swiss artist associated with Expressionism and later the Bauhaus. The work entered the Columbus Museum of Art as a gift from supporters of the museum's collection.
Where it works
