Story

A windmill rises along a Dutch canal, with sailboats drifting on the water nearby. Small dabs of blue, green, yellow, and purple build the scene instead of solid lines, giving the whole surface a flickering, luminous quality. The piece was painted in oil in 1906 by Paul Signac, a French artist who worked in the pointillist movement, and the canvas belongs to the Ohara Museum of Art.
