Purple peony with Chinese pheasant

Story

A pheasant with feathers of yellow, red, and blue settles among full purple peony blooms and scattered red flowers, set against a plain cream backdrop. The composition is rendered as a hand-colored engraving. It is credited to Pierre Joseph Buchoz, a French figure who worked as a botanist, entomologist, and jurist, bringing a naturalist's eye to this depiction of bird and blossom.
