Tuberose

Story

A tuberose stem rises against a plain cream backdrop, its white blossoms clustered along the stalk above slender green leaves. The image is a hand-colored engraving made in 1776, rendered with careful botanical detail. It appears as plate 66 from a bound collection of illustrated flower studies. The work is credited to Pierre Joseph Buchoz (1731–1807), a French botanist whose interests also extended into entomology and law.
