Story

A slender white egret poses amid rocks and aquatic foliage, with pale yellow water crowfoot blossoms scattered through the scene, all set against a soft cream backdrop. The image is rendered as a hand-colored engraving, created by Pierre Joseph Buchoz. Buchoz, born in 1731 and died in 1807, was a French botanist whose interests also extended to entomology and the study of law.
