Story

A lively street fair fills the scene, with striped towers rising above crowds, vehicles, and buildings in bands of green, blue, red, and purple. Figures gather and move through the dense urban setting, rendered with a bright, patterned folk art style. The piece is titled American Tragedy, by Ralph Fasanella (1914–1997), an American painter and trade unionist also known for Subway Riders.
