Bench Workers

Story

Four men stand at their benches in a cramped factory workshop, surrounded by tools, shelves, and equipment rendered in browns, greens, and blues. Each worker bends to his own task, hands occupied, in a space that feels tight and busy with machinery. The painting was made in oil in 1954 by Ralph Fasanella, an American painter and trade unionist who lived from 1914 to 1997 and also created Subway Riders. It belongs to the Fenimore Art Museum.
