Story

Streets fill with gathered crowds beneath brick facades and factory walls, newspaper headlines scattered among the buildings. Earthy browns and sudden flashes of blue animate the dense urban scene, suggesting the energy of a mass gathering caught in the middle of industrial surroundings. Painted in oil in 1978, the piece comes from Ralph Fasanella (1914–1997), an American painter and trade unionist whose work also includes Subway Riders.
