Story

Rows of boys in matching uniforms fill a courtyard, standing in orderly lines beneath brick buildings topped with green roofs. The scene has a disciplined, institutional feel, with the many small figures repeated across the yard. Painted in oil in 1961, the work is credited courtesy of Andrew Edlin Gallery. Its creator, Ralph Fasanella (1914–1997), was an American painter and trade unionist, also known for Subway Riders.

Where it works

Suited to kids' rooms and living rooms, and to hotel guest rooms, in a horizontal format.
