Story

A brick factory rises in bright colors, its many stories packed with laborers visible through turquoise windows trimmed in green. The structure fills the frame, emphasizing the scale of industrial labor happening inside. Rendered in oil in 1976, the piece captures a nighttime shift with a dense, patterned energy. Ralph Fasanella (1914–1997), an American painter and trade unionist, created this scene now held at the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden.
