Old Neighborhood

Story

A dense city block fills the composition, rows of multi-story buildings pressing close together while small figures move through the street below, going about daily activities. The palette leans on blue, brown, and earth tones, giving the whole scene a warm, grounded feel typical of folk art. Ralph Fasanella (1914–1997), an American painter and trade unionist, created this view of a close-knit urban neighborhood, also known for his painting Subway Riders.

Where it works

Suited to kids' rooms and living rooms, and to restaurants, in a horizontal format.
