Story

A whitewashed building anchors the scene, its blue door tucked beneath overhanging branches and clusters of flowering plants. Soft greens, warm yellows, and earthy browns blend across the walls and foliage, giving the courtyard a hushed, sunlit character. The composition suggests a sheltered garden corner, framed by trees that soften the architecture's edges. Rendered in oil on canvas, the piece comes from René Genis, a French painter and printmaker who lived from 1922 to 2004.

Where it works
