Story
A tower, an airplane, and a locomotive appear woven into rings of color that spread in yellow, purple, blue, and green, suggesting motion through overlapping circular bands rather than fixed outlines. Robert Delaunay built this scene using gouache over pencil on paper laid down on panel in 1937. He worked as a French painter linked to Orphism, a movement built on rhythmic color and abstraction drawn from modern machines and travel.
