Story

Soaring arches and columns swirl inward, rendered in overlapping bands of blue, green, white, and yellow, breaking the solid architecture of a Gothic church into fragmented, rippling curves of color. Robert Delaunay painted this oil composition in 1909, working within a French artistic context tied to Neo-impressionism and the movement called Orphism, also known as simultanism. The piece entered the museum through the William Hood Dunwoody Fund.
