Story

Two cats rest beneath gnarled trees whose branches carry pink flowers, set against a beige silk ground. Fine ink outlines shape the trunks and blossoms, while soft color fills the cats and leaves, giving the scene a quiet, delicate mood. The work is painted in ink and color on silk by Shen Nanpin, a Chinese painter of the Qing dynasty who lived from 1682 to 1760. It belongs to the Phoenix Art Museum collection.

Where it works

Suited to living rooms and bedrooms, and to hotel guest rooms, in a horizontal format.
