Story

A pair of white cranes marked with black stand near twisted pine trees in a landscape softened by mist, rendered mostly in sepia and brown tones. The scene appears in an album leaf painted in ink and color on silk by Shen Nanpin, part of a work depicting birds and animals including cranes. Shen Nanpin lived from 1682 to 1760 and worked as a painter within the Chinese Qing dynasty. The piece is held at the Phoenix Art Museum.
