Story

A pair of peacocks rests on a craggy slope, surrounded by twisted trees that rise around them in muted brown and blue hues. The scene unfolds in ink and color on silk, part of an album of birds and animals showing peacocks. Shen Nanpin, a Chinese painter of the Qing dynasty who lived from 1682 to 1760, created this work, now held at the Phoenix Art Museum.
