Story

Six small fish rest together, strung along a skewer, their forms set among loose scattered dots across aged paper. Brushed calligraphy accompanies the arrangement, adding a quiet written note beside the simple composition. The piece, titled Mezashi to Tatamiiwashi, is a woodcut made in 1810. Its artist, Teisai Hokuba (1771–1844), was a Japanese painter and ukiyo-e artist.
