Old Man's Dreaming

Story

A dense arrangement of dots builds concentric rings and geometric patterns across the canvas, rendered in browns, reds, yellows, and whites, with a stylized figure positioned at the left edge of the composition. These layered circles pull the eye inward, suggesting a sense of depth built entirely from small repeated marks. The painting was made in 1983 using synthetic polymer paint on canvas and is held at the Art Gallery of South Australia. Its maker, Uta Uta Tjangala (1926–1990), was an Australian painter. Looking closely at the work, the way the color bands shift and repeat around the central rings rewards a slow, careful look, revealing subtle variations in tone that are easy to miss at a glance.
