Story
A woven basket holds a cluster of white daisies mixed with green leaves, set against a gray background with green plants gathered around it. The composition conveys a simple still life arrangement, with the basket acting as the central focal point surrounded by natural greenery. This piece was painted in 1888 using oil on canvas, and it is held at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. It came into the museum's collection from Mr. and Mrs. Paul Mellon. The artist, Vincent van Gogh, created paintings associated with Post-Impressionism. One detail worth noticing is the contrast between the pale petals of the daisies and the darker greens of the surrounding foliage, which gives the arrangement a sense of depth despite the plain gray ground beneath it.
