Story
A cluster of twisted olive trees fills the scene, their trunks bent and curling under a sky painted in rich blue. The brushwork moves in restless, swirling strokes, mixing greens, browns, and blues across the branches and ground to give the whole grove a sense of motion. This painting was made in 1889 using oil, and it is held today at the Van Gogh Museum, having come to Amsterdam through the Vincent van Gogh Foundation. The artist, Vincent van Gogh, painted this work alongside other scenes of the natural world during his lifetime. Looking closely, the trunks seem almost alive, twisting like flames rooted into the earth, while the sky above presses in with the same restless energy as the trees themselves, uniting land and air in one continuous rhythm of color and movement.
