Story
A cluster of small buildings sits beneath a turbulent sky, with figures moving through the scene below as clouds swirl overhead in shades of green, yellow, and gray. The composition balances the quiet rooftops against the restless movement above them, giving the village a sense of being watched over by shifting weather. This piece was painted in 1890 using oil on canvas on panel, and it is held today at the Van Gogh Museum. Vincent van Gogh created the work, and his output is closely tied to his name as one of the most recognized painters of his era. One detail worth noticing is how the sky's motion seems to press down toward the rooftops, drawing the eye from the heavens into the small, human scale of the village itself below.
