Story

Jagged lines, floating circles, and loosely drawn organic shapes mingle across a pale backdrop, rendered in yellow, blue, brown, and black. There is no recognizable scene, only forms interacting through color and placement. The piece is a color lithograph made in 1920 by Wassily Kandinsky, a Russian-born artist whose practice spanned Expressionism, Symbolism, and the Bauhaus. It is held by the Yale University Art Gallery.
