Story

Rectangles and crisp lines arrange themselves across a textured beige ground, their colors spanning green, blue, red, yellow, orange, and brown in a composition built on angles and overlapping planes rather than any recognizable scene. The piece was made in 1930 using gouache over black and red ink, laid above an initial graphite drawing. Wassily Kandinsky (1866–1944), a Russian artist associated with Bauhaus, created this abstract construction.
