Story

A countryside scene opens with a sweep of yellow wildflowers spreading toward a small white church, with trees scattered across the field under a sky filled with soft clouds. Gentle greens, yellows, and blues give the land a quiet, airy mood. Painted in oil in 1920, the work reflects Willard LeRoy Metcalf's engagement with Impressionism, an American painter who lived from 1858 to 1925. The Telfair Museums holds it, acquired through museum purchase.
