Story
A pale, columned temple in the neoclassical style rises amid thick green foliage, set against a sky deepening into twilight blue. The painting, done in oil in 1906, is the work of Willard LeRoy Metcalf (1858–1925), an American painter associated with Impressionism. It entered the National Gallery of Art through a museum purchase using gallery funds.
