Story
Modest stone cottages with chimneys rise behind a sweep of red poppies, the whole scene painted in muted earth tones beneath a gray sky. The composition balances the brightness of the flowers against the quiet rural dwellings. The piece is called The Poppy Field, by Willard LeRoy Metcalf (1858–1925), an American painter associated with Impressionism.
Where it works
Warm-toned artwork suited to living rooms and dining rooms, and to hotel guest rooms, in a vertical format.
