The White Veil

Story

A hushed winter scene unfolds across a rolling hillside blanketed in snow, framed by leafless branches and dark evergreens standing against a pale gray sky. Painted in oil in 1909 by Willard LeRoy Metcalf (1858–1925), an American artist associated with Impressionism, the work captures the quiet stillness of a cold countryside. It entered the Detroit Institute of Arts as a gift from Charles Willis Ward.
