Story

A packed shoreline fills the composition, with bathers scattered across the sand and boats resting near the water, all painted in warm browns and golds under a pale blue sky. The piece is an oil painting completed in 1929 by William Glackens (1870–1938), an American artist associated with American realism and the Ashcan School. It belongs to the Terra Foundation for American Art, having come from the Daniel J. Terra Collection.
